We collect you from Rome airport and drive you on a 14 day magical holiday, taking you from your Mediterranean arrival point, Rome to Paris airport for your return flight to Australia.
This fully escorted ‘We Drive You’ holiday starting with three days in Rome where you can indulge in antiquities, fashion yet taking in the sights of this remarkable city. We will take you north through and up the spine of Italy visiting Sienna and onto Florence, where we stay for a day visiting the markets, bridges and cathedrals of this famous city. Leaving Florence we take you via Pisa and onto the walled city of Lucca spending time to explore this fascinating city, after a Tuscan night we drive you onto the Cinque Terre coast and its magical beauty.
We spend a day exploring, taking a boat trip between hilltop fishing villages. From Cinque Terre onto Milan then Lake Como staying in Menaggio on the Lake side. We catch a classic boat trip across Lake Como to Bellagio and Lenno both full of history while we enjoy local cuisine on the lake side.
This magical holiday trip then takes you across to and over Lake Maggiore via Lugano, Switzerland and onto Verbania. Driving you over the snow covered Alps through the Simplon pass to Lake Geneva where we spend time with its majestic lake views, flowers and the worlds best paddle steamers. From Lake Geneva we drive you via Poligny and the market town of Dole into the regional capital ‘Dijon’ renowned for its mustard. After spending time visiting Dijon we head north via the charming city of Auxerre and onto Paris to meet your connecting flight.

Day One
We drive in to the city of Rome settling into your hotel to refresh from the flight and start exploring the ancient city where may be your first stop will enable you to see the secrets of the Colosseum seeing the amphitheater’s underground chambers, which maybe off-limits to most of the public. In the Colosseum you can head straight inside to see where wild animals were once held and stand where gladiators stood.

Day Two
The second day in Rome is free time for you to see the main highlights of ancient Rome – The Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters Basilica.
Explore the sights of the Eternal City under lights at night. Visit the love know Trevi Fountain an area where traditional Italian meals of pasta, a meat dish, and dessert can be considered before a walk the through parts of Rome with it’s historical center yet enjoying the ambiance of this ancient city.

Day Three
Our last day in Rome includes a visit to the Pantheon, you are able to explore the interior of the legendary Pantheon understanding architectural features and there role in Ancient Rome. See Papal tombs, stroll among several sites walking though the city. Pass through Piazza Montecitorio, the location of the Obelisk to Montecitorio then Palazzo Montecitorio, spend time at the Mausoleum of Augustus, a funerary monument to a Roman conqueror.

Day Four
North to Florence.
This morning we head north along the SS1bis to Viterbo an inland town in central Italy; The medieval walled hilltop town is situated in the Lazio rural area which is rich with ancient Etruscan sites. Meeting the SR2 road we drive through the rolling hills of southern Tuscany onto Siena where we stop for approx. 3 hours to explore the many world famous attractions including Palio di Siena, Cathedral and Santa Maria della Scala. In the afternoon we continue our drive to Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region.

Day Five
City of Florence
Birthplace of the Renaissance with one of its most iconic sites the Florence Cathedral, complete with terracotta-tiled dome. The Galleria dell’Accademia displays Michelangelo’s “David,” while the Uffizi Gallery exhibits preeminent works such as Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation.” Hopefully you are able to visit the Leather and Food markets set in the central Market square seeing and tasting genuine Italian produce, a stroll to the river in the evening will see the well lit bridges of Florence – Ponte Vecchio and Santa Trinita as you sit admiring the sights over a well earned glass of local wine.

Day Six
Leave Central Italy for Cinque Terre.
We leave Florence and take the Western route to the Cinque Terre coast stopping at the Walled City of Lucca for a three hours of exploration and lunch. This intriguing town with its castle, medieval streets, markets, quaint shops visit San Michele in Foro and Palazzo Pfanner all worthy of exploring.
From Lucca we continue to the rugged coast line on the Mediterranean and explore the fishing village of Monterosso where we stay the night. Boutique shops, cafe’s, pastel coloured hill side houses and the harbour offer a holiday mode back drop as we enjoy yet another Mediterranean evening.

Day Seven
Cinque Terre Coast
We spend the day on the beach at Monterosso, swim in the Mediterranean Sea or a boat trip around the rugged coastline with its steep cliffs to the fishing village of Riomaggiore. Arriving in Riomaggiore we spend time exploring the township with its inclined roads, perched cafe’s and small brightly painted fishing boats before returning via Corniglia to Monterosso on the boat for another evening in Monterosso.

Day Eight
Cinque Terre Coast to Lake Como
Today we drive the fast route up the E70/A9 to Milan the fashion capital of Italy, if time permits we will stop for two hours in the city centre to visit some of the fashion shops and lunch. In the afternoon we drive north up and past the city of Como and along the West side of Lake Como, looking down on the splendor of small boats, hydrofoils and steam ferries below from the green mountain side we travel. We continue and reach our destination of Menaggio and small town on the edge of the Lakeside. A visit around the town and evening meal overlooking the lake finishes the day.

Day Nine
Lake Como
After breakfast we take the local ferry from Menaggio and enjoy the comfortable trip across the lake stopping at Varenna before arriving at Bellagio with its shopping, restaurants and hotels. We spend the hours exploring the town with a well earned lunch at Hotel Serbelloni overlooking the swimming pool and the Lake. Taking a further ferry extension across to Lenno for coffee in one of the Great Hotels once on the World Tour route prior to the return trip to Menaggio for a pleasant sundowner on the Lake.

Day Ten
Menaggio to Verbania via Lugano
We leave Lake Como behind climbing over the mountains and on to Lugano set on Lake Lugano. The city is in southern Switzerland’s Italian-speaking Ticino region. Its Swiss-Mediterranean mix of cultures is closely related to that of Italy’s northern Lombardy region, and reflected in its architecture, cuisine and surrounded by mountains. Its main square, Piazza della Riforma, is ringed with pastel-colored, neoclassical palazzi a place where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon we drive west leaving the glacier lake Lugano and arrive on the east bank of Lake Maggiore, we follow the lakeside through the mountainous forest to the quaint town of Laveno where we have a coffee under the trees as we await the next car ferry to take us across Lake Maggiore and dock in Verbania on the north/west side of the lake. Arriving in the picturesque town we locate ourselves in our lakeside hotel prior to exploring this narrow streeted town with its interesting array of stylish boutique shops.

Day Eleven
Over the Alps
We set off from Verbania into the Italian Alps, climbing over the snow covered mountains stopping at the top to admire the tranquility of the mountains, dropping down through the Swiss Alps following the winding roads of the Simplon pass stopping from time to time as we cross the French border to reach Chamonix, where we stroll through this ski town with its specialist shops, cafe’s and views of the mighty Mont Blanc and its glaciers. From Chamonix we continue down from the Alps across flat lands towards Lake Geneva, where we find our hidden overnight gem right on the lake side, the medieval village of Yvoire set on the French quarter of Lake Geneva.

Day Twelve
Explore Lake Geneva
Options are on the table today with the chance of catching the magnificent paddle steam into the city of Geneva to visit the city with its fountain, U.N. regional Headquarters and the shopping centre where watches and chocolates stand out. Alternatively catch a paddle stream across the Lake with gourmet lunch on board to either Lausanne or Montreux, both model towns with lakeside walkways adorned with flowers. Returning to Yvoire to explore the hidden castle gardens and the flower covered restaurants lining the medieval cobble streets.

Day Thirteen
Through the forests of France.
Driving from Geneva we cross the Swiss border into France once more as we travel through the country roads of France to the country town of Poligny, lunch and a good look at the provincial town before crossing the fields on the D905 road and arriving at the market town of Dole in the Jura region which is set on the side and junction of the Le Doubs river and the Jean Monnet canal.
From Dole we drive onto the regional capital Dijon, renowned for its mustard and cathedral you have the option of exploring this prized town with its quaint town square, coloured roofs, cafe’s and the Hotel Du Nord where Beef Bourguignon is at its best.

Day Fourteen
Dijon to Paris via Auxerre.
We leave Dijon behind after breakfast driving north reaching the town of Auxerre set on the side of the river Yonne with it’s twin cathedrals standing proud. We explore the town with its unique shopping area before settling for lunch opposite the l’Horloge. Following a stroll through the town we continue to drive north to the capital Paris and onto Charles De Gaulle airport to marry into your return flight to Australia. Alternatively a hotel can be arranged in Paris should flights be at a later time, likewise an extra Extension trip could take you to London.
